Congressman Charlie Crist (D-St. Petersburg) released the following statement applauding the unanimous decision by the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) blocking tariffs imposed by the Trump Administration on newspapers. In July, Crist submitted testimony to the USITC during its hearings on these new tariffs. He also introduced the bipartisan PRINT Act to block newspaper tariffs and joined fellow members of the Florida Congressional Delegation in calling on the U.S. Department of Commerce to prevent this harmful action.

"Local newspapers are essential to our economy, communities, and democracy. The new tariffs on newsprint were already causing real damage to the industry, including my hometown paper, which was impacted by layoffs directly tied to these tariffs," said Crist. "I was visiting with staff today at the Poynter Institute discussing this and other issues impacting the Tampa Bay Times and the newspaper industry when we heard this great news. We will continue working together to protect the journalism industry."
