Congressman Charlie Crist (D-FL) and Congressman Mike Johnson (R-LA) recently joined Tim Farley on Sirius/XM’s POTUS Channel Midday Briefing to discuss their bipartisan push for a National Day of Civilityand the importance of returning civility to our political discourse. Listen here.
Reps. Crist and Johnson also recently co-authored an op-ed published by The Hill regarding their bipartisan legislation, H.Res. 400, that recognizes July 12th as the National Day of Civility, with the date a reference to Matthew 7:12 which reads “in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” The resolution currently has the support of 74 bipartisan members of Congress.
This legislative push comes on the heels of a recent report by Weber Shandwick and Powell Tate in partnership with KRC Research that found incivility has reached "crisis levels" in our country. Additionally, earlier this year, the members led the freshman class in a Commitment to Civility pledge as well as distributing wristbands that read "Practice the GOLDEN RULE every day!" to all members of the House and Senate as a reminder of the importance of civility in Congress.
