Crist Votes to Avert Government Shutdown

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D-St. Petersburg) released this statement following House passage of the Extending Funding and Delivering Emergency Assistance Act, legislation to extend current government funding levels through December 3rd, averting a government shutdown. Without additional appropriated funds, the government would run out of funds and shutdown at midnight tonight.

Additionally, the bill includes Crist-requested $22 million for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to investigate the Surfside condo collapse, as well as $28.6 billion in disaster relief and $6.3 billion for evacuation and resettlement of Afghan nationals who aided the U.S. military.

“Florida families benefit from the federal government in education, housing, health, care for veterans, national security, and public safety. Especially amidst a pandemic, we’ve got to keep the government open and working for the people,” said Rep. Crist. “Additionally, I’m proud that we successfully secured $22 million to investigate the Surfside collapse. We have to do all we can to keep families safe in their homes.”
