Crist Statement on Jamie Spears Suspended as Britney’s Conservator

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D- St. Petersburg) released this statement following the announcement that a judge has suspended her father, Jamie Spears, as conservator over her person and $60 million estate.

“I’m thrilled Britney has another legal victory in her fight for her freedom! She has bravely fought and thankfully she’s getting results,” said Rep. Crist. “Each time we see positive developments in Britney’s case, I’m reminded of the untold number of other Americans trapped in similar circumstances and our urgent need to help them too. For Britney and the many others trapped like her, let’s pass the FREE Act.”

In July, Reps. Crist and Nancy Mace (R-SC) introduced the Freedom and Right to Emancipate from Exploitation (FREE) Act, legislation to protect Americans in guardianships from abuse and exploitation.
