Crist Votes to Protect Medicare

Washington DC – U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D-FL) release a statement on House passage of H.R. 1868, legislation to prevent $36 billion in cuts to Medicare for the over 44 million Americans and 4.6 million Floridians who depend on the program.

“It’s baffling to me how anyone could support cutting Medicare – especially during a global pandemic.  This should have been a unanimous vote,” said Rep. Crist. “Medicare is a lifeline for millions of seniors and people with disabilities who rely on the program to see a doctor, get a prescription, and receive vital care. It’s a promise to those who built America into the greatest country in the world that they can see their doctor and afford their prescriptions in retirement. Just as they did with the American Rescue Plan, my Republican colleagues are choosing to play politics rather than do what’s right for 4.6 million Florida seniors. Regardless, I’m proud that the House of Representatives got the job done For The People. No cuts to Medicare!”

Without H.R. 1868, automatic spending cuts, also known as “sequestration,” would cut Medicare by $36 billion. In addition, farmer support and crime victims would be slashed, while students would pay higher fees on student loans.
