Congressman Charlie Crist (D-FL) issued the following statement after the U.S. COVID-19 death toll reached the tragic milestone of 500,000 lives lost.

"The loss of half a million Americans to COVID-19 is profound, a number so large it’s hard to comprehend. It’s greater than the number of Americans killed in combat during World War I and World War II combined.

“We need to remember that each life lost is an empty seat at the dinner table, a holiday without a loved one, and a funeral that, especially in the early days of the pandemic, family members were not even able to attend.

"It is in memory of the 500,000 Americans lost that we will continue to fight this virus with everything we’ve got until the war is won. Through robust vaccine distribution, continued masking, and social distancing, we are on the path to ending this pandemic in the next six months, and with it, a return to brighter days."
