Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D-FL) released a statement welcoming support for his bill H.R. 305, to award Officer Eugene Goodman a Congressional Gold Medal following Officer Goodman’s act of bravery, luring a violent mob away from an unguarded Senate Chamber during the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.

Following the events at the Capitol, Crist introduced legislation to award the hero officer a Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor that can be bestowed by Congress. Crist’s bill in the House now has the support of over 100 bipartisan members of Congress with a bipartisan Senate companion bill introduced last week by Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Chris Coons (D-DE), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Ben Cardin (D-MD).

“Officer Goodman’s heroism and bravery protected our Capitol on January 6th,” said Rep. Crist. “The effort to award Officer Goodman the Congressional Gold Medal is gaining steam because of the gratitude of so many Representatives and Senators and because of a national groundswell of appreciation for what he did. I’m proud to see continued bipartisan, bicameral support for my bill to bestow this honor and will continue working until it becomes law.”
