St. Petersburg, FL – U.S. Representative Charlie Crist released the following statement calling on Governor Ron DeSantis to extend the State’s moratorium on evictions through the end of the year. If allowed to lapse, the moratorium, which is set to expire at midnight tonight, would force thousands of Floridians out of their homes during a pandemic as many continue to struggle following the devastating health and economic impacts of the coronavirus outbreak.

Governor DeSantis, on five separate occasions, has waited until the last minute to grant relief to families living on the edge by extending the moratorium. Congressman Crist and other local leaders have called for action by the Governor each time.

“Once again, the State of Florida's eviction moratorium is set to expire, with hundreds of thousands of Floridians living on the edge of homelessness because of the pandemic,” said Rep. Crist. “Floridians deserve relief and stability. I’m calling for the Governor to extend the eviction moratorium in the State through the end of the year. We must protect Floridians now.”
